Problem: After clicking a TestOut module or assignment link in the school LMS portal/class page (Canvas, Blackboard, D2L, Moodle, etc.), the following error message appears:
"We had trouble preparing your TestOut experience. The most common cause of this error error is that third-party cookies are blocked..."
Solution: Enable third-party cookies in your browser, either specifically for TestOut, or in general. Instructions for supported browser are included below.
Safari:
- Click Safari (in the upper left corner of the browser).
- Click Preferences (or Settings for Safari 16 or later).
- Click Privacy.
- Deselect Prevent cross-site tracking.
- Close the privacy settings window.
- Refresh the page, and click "Launch TestOut", if prompted. Otherwise, navigate back to your class page and launch the TestOut assignment/module link again.
Chrome:
Method 1: General Settings fix
- Click the eye icon in the top right area of the address bar.
- Click Site not working.
- Click Allow cookies.
- Click Launch TestOut, if applicable.
Method 2: General Settings fix
- Click the three stacked dots in the top right corner of the browser.
- Click Settings.
- Click Privacy and Security in the left column.
- Click Third-party cookies.
- Click the radio button next to Allow all cookies.
- Close the browser's Settings tab.
- Reload the page on the browser tab with the error, and click "Launch TestOut", if prompted. Otherwise, navigate back to your class page and launch the TestOut assignment/module link again.
Edge:
Method 1: Only unblock TestOut's cookies
- Click the cookies blocked icon in the top right area of the address bar.
- Click Site not working?
- Click Show cookies and other site data.
- Click the Blocked tab.
- Click testout.com.
- Click Allow.
- Click and allow any other blocked TestOut related cookies.
- Click Refresh.
Method 2: General Settings fix
- Click the three horizontal dots in the top right corner of the browser.
- Click Settings.
- Click Cookies and site permissions in the left column.
- Click Manage and delete cookies and site date.
- Click the toggle switch to disable the Block third-party cookies setting.
- Close the browser's settings tab.
- Refresh the page on the browser tab with the error, and click "Launch TestOut", if prompted. Otherwise, navigate back to your class page and launch the TestOut assignment/module link again.
Firefox:
Note: Firefox users should first try the solution found in this article before trying the below steps.
- Click the three stacked bars in the top right corner of the browser.
- Click Settings.
- Click Privacy & Security in the left column.
- Click the radio button in the Standard (or Strict) box.
- Click Reload all tabs.
- Close the browser's settings tab and open the tab that had the error.
