Applied labs gives students a document in progress, then gives them a series of edits to make on that document--kind of like making changes based on a style guide or doing edits on a document after a review. These labs are similar to Project labs in other products.
Notice that now students are given the full list of all tasks to complete at once, hints are not available, and immediate feedback is not given. Students have to do the work, then decide when they think they’ve completed every requirement. When students click Submit, they get a score on how well they've done, along with feedback about what is not correct and how they could have done each required task.
Students can redo this lab multiple times, but each time they do, they start from the original document and must complete all required tasks.
Learning Tips
We recommend allowing students to do the lab multiple times and use their highest score for their grade.
The main purpose of the Applied labs is to give practice performing skills in a real-world scenario.
Read the scenario carefully and focus on the purpose of the Office features learned up to that point.
Microsoft Office Specialist Strategy
Students need to complete both Applied labs.
Consider a 100% or 0 grading. Students are given steps on how to complete each lab but must re-do the lab from the beginning. Like the challenge labs this helps to develop proficiency each time the re-do the lab to get 100%.
